Moving to Pakistan
Despite Pakistan’s political instability it is a beautiful country, with a deep rooted sense of history. It has been designated as one of the next eleven countries that have the potential to become one of the largest economies in the world. Its main industries are agriculture, textiles, the manufacture of chemicals, steel and iron and the production of clothing. It is primarily within these industries that people from the UK consider relocating to Pakistan.
Visa requirements vary depending on the reasons for wanting to gain entry into the country. Work visas are available, however it is important that the applicant has a letter from their future employer indicating a job offer, a letter of reference from the employer and a letter from the Board of Investment. Visas must be applied for and granted at the High Commission for Pakistan in London prior to departure – Pakistan work visas take three months to process.
Having the wrong type of visa, or travelling to Pakistan before your visa has been granted can result in a fine or even possible imprisonment for a short period of time.

Pakistan is a Muslim country and it is extremely important that when in the country their laws and beliefs are both respected and adhered to. Failure to adhere to their laws can result in imprisonment and in some cases more severe forms of punishment.
Due to the political unrest seen in certain areas of the country it is worthwhile to check with the UK Foreign Office website on a regular basis for the latest advice and recommendations about which areas within the country should be avoided by UK Citizens.
Despite the problems in some Pakistani regions there are several established expat groups in other locations, including Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. To find out more about joining a local expat group and to meet some likeminded fellow Brits look in one of the local English speaking newspapers, notice boards at your place of work or consider joining one of the many expat networking websites online, such as Internations.org.
