Removals and Shipping to Mexico

Mexico has long been a popular tourist destination, with an average 21 million visitors per year tourism is one of the biggest industries in the country. Its tropical climate, stunning coastline, low cost of living, laid back atmosphere and close proximity to the United States make it a popular choice for Brits looking to relocate abroad.

While tourism provides the country with a major source of income many consider relocating to Mexico for employment within one of its other main industries, including oil production, electronics, car production, banking and other financial services.

There are several different visa options available to those moving to Mexico for employment; however a firm job offer must be in place in order for the visa application to be considered by the authorities. Once an employment visa has been granted the applicant is given is the status of Immigrant. Once they have resided in Mexico for five years they are entitled to apply for permanent residency or Immigrado status.

There are several large British expat communities in Mexico, made up of people from all walks of life – from those working for a large corporation in one of the cities, through to those who chose to move to Mexico for the relaxed pace of life and work within the tourism industry along the coastline.

If you are considering a move to Mexico it is worthwhile joining one of the many expat websites available – these sites are run by other expats, they know what it is like to move to a new country and just how daunting it can be, no matter how well travelled and worldly wise you are. Many arrange regular social events, giving new immigrants the opportunity to network and forge new friendships with other likeminded individuals.

Of all the expat communities in Mexico the ones in Mexico City, Cancun and Guadalajara are perhaps the largest, with Brits enjoying the many cultural activities these places have to offer.

Mexico City is the eighth richest city in the world and is the financial, cultural and political centre of the country. With an excellent health care system and good transport links to the rest of Latin America, the United States and beyond it is a desirable place to live.

Culturally Mexico City is outstanding. Several areas, including the Historic Centre and Xochimilco, with its floating gardens, have been declared UNESCO world heritage sites. The city has almost 300 museums, art galleries and theatres in addition to an excellent array of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Cancun, located on Mexico’s Caribbean coastline, is a world renowned tourist hotspot. In addition to tourism it has a respected university, which offers places to many international students.

The relaxed atmosphere, nightlife and cultural events that this city offers make it a favourite location for tourists and expats alike.
Expats living in Guadalajara do so mainly due to their employment within the information technology sector, with many worldwide corporations having bases here. It has a deep sense of history, and architecturally stunning buildings dating back to the 1800’s sit side by side with modern developments. Culturally Guadalajara has been home to some of the country’s most distinguished artists, playwrights and musicians and the city continues to have a thriving arts scene to this day.

A move to Mexico is an exciting prospect however, saying goodbye to the UK and setting up a new home in a foreign country requires careful planning and consideration. There are visas to be applied for, old homes to be sold, new homes to be bought or rented, employment offers to be confirmed and arrangements for international removals to be put in place.

While Fox Moving & Storage cannot help with your visa or finding you a new home we can help to safely and securely ship your possessions to your new home country – contact us today and talk to one of our advisers who will explain the full range of services we can provide for your removals to Mexico.
