Information on Relocating to South Korea
Despite the political tensions with its neighbour to the north, South Korea is seen by many as a land of opportunity. It has a high standard of living, an exceptional education system and low unemployment. South Korea was one of the few countries to be unaffected by the recent global recession. Tourism has seen a boom in recent years, however it is difficult for people relocating to South Korea to stay as anything more than a tourist. Work visas are normally only given to those who have exceptional skills within a particular industry, and only if there isn’t a South Korean citizen who is in possession of the same skills.
That said, South Korea is a world leader in many technologies and for those wanting to arrange UK removals to South Korea employment visas can be obtained if the applicant works within the aerospace, robotics and biotechnology industries. Those who have successfully applied for a work visa must obtain a foreign registration card upon their arrival in the country.
The card must be carried at all times and it is a punishable offence to not present it when asked. Permanent residency will only be granted to those relocating to South Korea who have exceptional and essential skills within an industry or if they are looking to invest a minimum of $500,000 in the country and start up a business which will employ at least five South Korean workers.
