Moving to Bangladesh
From its inception Bangladesh has suffered from many problems and seen much turmoil, mainly due to attempts from other countries to rule the country. It wasn’t until 1971 that Bangladesh finally gained its independence, however still today tensions run high between the country and its neighbours, in particular Pakistan. As a result, when moving to Bangladesh it is essential to check with the Foreign Office website on a regular basis for any information about areas undergoing political unrest, and the potential for terrorism in those areas.
British expats relocating to Bangladesh are also advised to register with the British consul upon arrival so that they have a record of your presence within the country, and can offer assistance swiftly should you require it. Additionally, Bangladesh is predominantly an Islamic country and it is important that their rules and traditions are both respected and adhered to, as violating Islamic laws can result in punishment, including prison sentences.
