Removals and Shipping to Holland
The Netherlands has had strong ties with the United Kingdom for many years through both industry and tourism. With its rich cultural heritage and relaxed atmosphere, the capital city Amsterdam is one of the most popular European destinations that Brits choose to visit each year and it is easy to see why many decide to move over permanently and arrange international removals to Holland. Holland has a very strong economy – one of the strongest in Europe – and enjoys low unemployment. The first stock exchange was set up in the Netherlands and the financial sector is one of the main industries of the country, in addition to agriculture and international exports, thanks to its several large sea ports.
EU Citizens do not require a visa in order to move to Holland, however if the intention is to stay in the country for more than three months then there are certain procedures and documents to obtain that one should first be aware of.

Relocating to Holland
Firstly, within five days of your arrival in the country you must register on the local GBA database. The GBA (Gemeentelijke Basis Administratie) is the Municipal Personal Records Database and it is a requirement of every person living in the country, regardless of their country of origin, to register their arrival in the country, and then to update their details as and when they occur – including change of address, name, births, marriages, deaths and anything else that could affect their legal status. Upon registering, you will be provided with a citizen service number, also known as a BSN (Burgerservicenummer). This identification number must be shown whenever you start a new job, apply for benefits or open a bank account among other things.
Once you have been a resident of the Netherlands for 90 days you must register with the Immigratie en Naturalisatiedienst (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) and provide evidence to support your reason for residency within the country – such as a contract of employment.
Thanks to Holland’s strong ties with the UK, due in part to the financial and export industry, there are several expat groups within the country made up of people who have moved over for work. A city such as Amsterdam will have a strong expat community made up of Brits working in finance and banking, whereas the Hague, which has been dubbed ‘The world’s legal capital’, has primarily British expats that work within the law and legislature sector.
