Removals to France

Moving to France

the eiffel tower in parisAs our closest neighbour in mainland Europe, France is an increasingly popular choice for people looking to emigrate from the UK, whether it be for work, study or even to retire. And as part of the European Union, the legalities of moving, and indeed using a company such as Fox Moving & Storage for removals to France, couldn’t be easier due to the limited documentation required nowadays.

While there are no visas required to move over to France, it is well worth remembering to get some essential UK documents translated, either before you move or once you have arrived. These include: Birth Certificate, UK Driving license, medical insurance paperwork and a marriage certificate (if you have one). And again, although you don’t need a visa, if you wish to reside and work freely in France you might have to obtain a residency card (a Carte de Sejour) – getting this will allow you to obtain essential French social security documents (if you are moving to France for your work then your employer will most probably deal with this for you). A Carte de Sejour is initially issued for a five-year period and then extended after this time.

Removals to France

There is a blossoming expat community in France and some areas are more popular than others. Popular areas for international removals to France include:

Paris – One of the world’s top leading cultural and business centres, France’s capital city is increasingly popular with expats, many of whom move here for work. It is just an hour’s flight from London and the EuroStar train service can get you from London St Pancras to the Gare du Nord in as little as 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Cote d’Azur – This section of Mediterraen coastline on the southeast corner of France is made up of seaside resorts including Saint Tropez, Cannes, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and

Nice. The principality of Monaco is also located here. Once an exclusive winter health resort for wealthy Brits, the Cote d’Azur is an incredibly popular location in which to move, and in excess of 84,000 foreign residents live in the region.

Aix en Provence – located 30 miles north of Marseille in southern France, Aix is a popular university town with a large student population, many of whom come to study from abroad thanks to its numerous international study programmes.

Normandy – With strong links to the UK, Normandy is a popular region for expats, especially for those looking to live in a more remote area without being too far away from larger towns or good transport links.
